British Vogue Magazine - Feature From The London Protests

My Featured Article in British Vogue Magazine from London's Protests for #BlackLivesMatter #LivesMatter #AllLivesMatter

I decided to join the peaceful March on Wednesday the 3rd of June in Central London after the murder of George Floyd in America. A 46 year old Black male died after a Minneapolis police officer pinned him to the ground and pressed his knee on his neck, while Floyd pleaded for help and repeatedly said he could not breathe.

The brutal murder of George Floyd has made a global impact, but his name is one of the many black names that have been murdered by police brutality in America.

On Wednesday we stood together in Hyde Park to say ENOUGH. Enough of the discrimination, Enough of the injustice. Enough.

Although these incidents have happened in the USA, racism is something that is still very much an issue in the UK and in the year 2020 this should not be happening.

I feel very proud of all the Londoners, white, asian, gay...trans...who could unite to fight to Wednesday not for Black Lives but for All Lives.... for the human race, for inequality, for Justice and for peace.

I went with a group of close friends and we made sure we were safe at all times. We wore our masks most of the time, although I must admit it was not easy to shout out with a mask on all the time and we sat in Hyde Park listening to speakers including Actor John Boyega or UK Singer Sam Smith.

I felt like I was taking a small part of an Epic moment in History and there was British Vogue Magazine to capture it too!

I bumped into my friend and amazing photographer Misan Harriman and I gave an interview to his colleague.

Park Lane was flooded with protesters, we walked towards parliament in a peaceful manner, cars honked in support as we walked past. The love could be felt and the passion everyone exuded was clear.

The next day I woke up to a flood of people wanting to join me in the next March.

Thank you Vogue Magazine for using your platform to help highlight the issues of Racism in this world.

A bit of information about the Black Lives Matter Movement:

#BlackLivesMatter was founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer. Black Lives Matter Foundation, Inc is a global organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes. By combating and countering acts of violence, creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centering Black joy, we are winning immediate improvements in our lives.
