Amal Fashanu is a fearless entrepreneur: founding a football foundation at 19, a streetwear brand at 21, a handbag line at 27, and a PR firm in West Africa at 30. Her ventures blend passion, purpose, and style.
Designer
Amal Fashanu is a versatile designer who began in 2012 with her equality-focused streetwear brand, Black Heart Label.
By 2017, she was creating signature handbags and leather pieces for her own label, Amal Fashanu Handbags.
Musician
Amal Fashanu began her music journey in 2024, releasing her first EP on February 14,"Unreleased Letters to my EX."
Featured as a rising artist in Hunger Magazine, she’s now busy with her first album, hoping to inspire with her new sound.
TV/Presenter
Amal Fashanu is a TV presenter who’s made several Current Affairs Documentaries for BBC3.
She’s also graced Spanish TV on Telecinco’s Viva La Vida and now connects with viewers worldwide through her YouTube channel.
AF Handbags
AF Handbags, was founded in 2017. It is a luxury brand born from Amal’s passion for craftsmanship, art and design.
After completing her masters degree in handbag and leather design in Madrid, she launched her own collection, which quickly caught the eye of top fashion magazines and celebs. With Spanish-African identity at it’s core, the new collection promises to be the best , blending bold heritage with modern African Elegance.
Black Heart Label
Black Heart Label was founded in 2012 by Amal Fashanu, inspired by the impact of her BBC documentary Britain’s Gay Footballers, which took her from Downing Street with David Cameron to launching her own streetwear brand championing equality. Single-handedly built, Black Heart Label has grown into a powerful statement worn by celebrities and footballers around the world — a brand that proudly stands for inclusivity, courage, and change.
The Justin
Fashanu Foundation
The Justin Fashanu Foundation was officially founded by Amal Fashanu in 2020 with the support of the PFA (Professional Footballers’ Association).
Created in honour of her late uncle, Justin Fashanu — England’s first black £1 million player — the foundation has become one of the UK’s most recognised voices against discrimination in football.
Amal continues to lead its mission, fighting tirelessly for equality and inclusion across the game.
Amal Fashanu has charted a captivating and bold journey into music. Though best known as a journalist, equality advocate, fashion icon, and founder of the Justin Fashanu Foundation, in 2022 she began exploring her musical voice with singles like “Detty December” and “Lean On Me,” blending Afrobeat, R&B, and Latin pop to early acclaim. Building on this momentum, she released her debut EP, “Unreleased Letters to My Ex,” on Valentine’s Day, 14 February 2025.
